How Long Do Lash Extensions Last? Learn 7 Effective Tips to Take Care of Your Lashes for Longer Use

Are you having trouble keeping your lash extensions intact so you can use them for longer? Lash extensions are beauty products that many women go for to achieve longer, fuller lashes. They come in two different types, such as lash lifts and lash extensions. Both procedures have temporary effects, but you can use your eyelash extensions for a long time with proper care. It is also important to let a competent lash technician certified in a complimentary eyelash technician course do the treatment.

How long do lash extensions usually last? Keep scrolling, and we'll share some tips on how to take care of your lashes so you can enjoy them for as long as possible!

The Difference Between Lash Lifts and Lash Extensions

Lash lifts and lash extensions are two of the most notable ways to achieve voluminous eyelashes, giving your face a much younger and brighter look. However, people are often confused and don't know much about the difference between these two. So here is your chance to learn which is which.

A lash lift utilizes non-toxic chemicals on natural lashes, and it is a popular alternative to lash extensions. These chemicals break down the lashes' bonds in order to reform them again. They are more likely to perm your lashes! This process allows the lashes to curl from the base up to the tip, giving them a longer and lusher appearance. Please take note of that distinction because a lash lift adds curl, but it doesn't add length or volume. Lashes appear longer and fuller due to the additional curl.

Lash extensions add volume and length to the natural lash. The process involves placing artificial lashes known as extensions to the natural eyelash. Each artificial lash is carefully attached to the natural lashes with 1-2 millimeters from the base of the eyelid using special glue. Artificial lash extensions are available in different curl shapes, colors, and thicknesses for a total lash transformation.

Lash lifts and lash extensions—how long do they last? Here's the catch. A lash lift can last for about 2 to 3 weeks, while lash extensions last longer, for around 3 to 6 months, with proper maintenance.

Taking Care of Your Lashes for Longer Use

Accidents can happen at any time, but there are things that you can prevent if you’re careful. Just like after your lash extension session, there's a chance that you'll do something out of impulse that might ruin your newly applied lashes. You have to keep reminding yourself that you have to get the most out of the eyelash service you paid for. Here are the other things you need to do to maximize the longevity of your lash extensions.

  1. Protect your lash extension from wetness. After the application of lash extensions, it is usually prescribed not to wet the lashes for another 48 hours. This period is important to ensure that the eyelash glue will form a strong bond between the natural and artificial lashes. As much as possible, even after 48 hours, protect your lashes from water to extend the use of your extensions.

NOTE: In case you cry or wet your lash extensions in any way, visit your lash technician right away to apply the necessary remedy.

  1. Do not rub or touch your eyes. You typically rub or touch your eyes when you feel like they are itchy or there is dirt you need to remove. If it happens, use a finger lightly and don't apply too much pressure. You can also use a mascara wand to remove the dirt in your lashes.
  2. Always sleep on your back or your side. Your sleep position also affects your lashes. Do not sleep on your face nor put a pillow on it. Pressing your lashes to surfaces will damage them.
  3. Maintain the lash curl by brushing the tips in the morning. The lash curl makes your eyes more stunning and attractive. Make it a routine to brush the tips in the morning, and remember not to apply too much pressure.
  4. Say no to oil-based products around your eyes. Do not use oil-based products or those with glycol and carbonate content because they will interfere with the bond between your natural and artificial lashes.
  5. Use an eyelash foam cleanser when cleaning. Clean your lashes using a foam cleanser. Most eyelash foam cleansers available in the market are gentle enough to use in your eye area. Foam cleanser not only removes dirt but also extends the life of your lashes. If you feel like you don't have to remove some dirt at all, you can clean your lashes every other 3 days to remove traces of natural oil, dust, and makeup.
  6. Get infills regularly. Having regular infills after your main lash extension session will keep your lashes fuller and voluminous. It is recommended to have infills every 2 or 3 weeks.
